Chandigarh and the area surrounding it were constituted as a Union Territory on 1 November 1966. It serves as the joint capital of both Punjab and Haryana States. It is bound on North and West by Punjab and on the East and South by Haryana.


Law Department of Chandigarh Administration is headed by Legal Remembrancer who is the Head of the Department and the Home Secretary-cum-Law Secretary, U.T., Chandigarh is the Administrative Secretary of the department.

Q1: What will happen if a minor commits crime in India?

ANS1: Children above the age of 12 are considered capable of committing crimes, though till they reach the age of 18, they are considered juveniles under the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, which generally means that the maximum time they can be sent to prison for is 3 years.






Q2: What are the kinds of punishments in India?

ANS2: There are five different kinds of punishments awarded by the Indian Penal Code, 1860 under Section 53, and they are DeathLife imprisonment, Simple or rigorous imprisonment, Fine and Forfeiture of property.






Q3: What is punishment?

ANS3: Punishment is a process by which the state inflicts some pain to the persons or property of person who is found guilty of Crime. ... In other words punishment is sanction imposed on an accused for the infringement of the established rules.





Q4: Can you kill in self defence in India?

ANS4: Indian laws do empower police personnel and civilians to kill another person, provided the right to self-defence is involved. However, Article 21 of the Constitution says that no person can be deprived of his or her life without the due process of law being followed.
